Algebra 2 worksheets are practice sheets on topics like quadratic equations, rational expressions, functions and absolute value. This free generator makes them in your browser with no sign-up. Choose the problem types, difficulty and number of problems, and the sheet appears on the right, ready to print.

Each sheet includes an answer key on a separate page by default, so you can check work quickly. The problems are made on your own device, and nothing is uploaded. This page mixes problem types from several Algebra 2 topics into one sheet, which suits review, homework and warm-ups. It also works on phones and tablets, although printing needs a printer or a Save as PDF option. Everything you make here is free to use in class or in products you sell, such as Teachers Pay Teachers resources, Etsy printables or KDP workbooks.

How to use the Algebra 2 worksheet generator

  1. Tick one or more boxes under Problem types. Quadratic formula, Simplify rational expressions, Composition of functions and Absolute value equations are already ticked when the page opens.
  2. Choose a level under Difficulty: Easy, Medium or Hard.
  3. Pick a number under Number of problems, from 6 up to 30.
  4. Open More options if you want to change the layout. You can set Columns (Automatic, 1, 2 or 3), Paper size (Letter or A4), a Worksheet title, and a Name and date line. The Answer key on a separate page box is on by default. Untick it to leave the key off.
  5. Check the preview on the right. Press Show answers to see each answer under its problem, then press it again to hide them.
  6. Press Print / Save as PDF. In the browser’s print dialog, choose Save as PDF to get a file.

New worksheet creates a fresh random set with the same settings, so a teacher can print several versions or a student can practise with new numbers. Copy link copies a link that reopens exactly the same worksheet. Your settings are remembered in this browser for your next visit, unless you open a shared link, which uses that link’s settings. When several problem types are ticked, the problems are shared evenly between them, grouped by type and numbered 1 to N.

What is taught in algebra 2

Algebra 2 usually follows Algebra 1 and extends it into more advanced topics. Algebra II worksheets commonly cover quadratic equations, rational expressions and equations, functions, radicals, exponent rules, absolute value equations and inequalities, and systems of equations.

Quadratic equations are solved by completing the square, by the quadratic formula, or by checking the discriminant to see how many real solutions exist. Rational expressions are simplified, multiplied and added by factoring first and then cancelling common factors. Rational equations can produce extraneous solutions, which are values that make a denominator zero and must be rejected.

Functions are combined with composition, where f(g(x)) means you put g(x) into f. Inverse functions reverse the original function. Exponent rules such as a^-1 = 1/a and radical rules such as rationalizing the denominator round out the topics. Absolute value equations give two cases, so |x| = 8 has the solutions x = -8 and x = 8.

How do you solve a quadratic equation with the quadratic formula

Write the equation in standard form, ax² + bx + c = 0, then substitute a, b and c into x = (−b ± √(b² − 4ac)) / 2a. Work out the number under the square root first, because b² − 4ac, the discriminant, tells you how many real solutions to expect.

  1. Write the equation as ax² + bx + c = 0 and identify a, b and c. For x² − 8x + 12 = 0, a = 1, b = −8 and c = 12.
  2. Find the discriminant: (−8)² − 4(1)(12) = 64 − 48 = 16. A positive discriminant means two real solutions.
  3. Substitute into the formula: x = (8 ± √16) / 2 = (8 ± 4) / 2.
  4. Work out both values. (8 + 4) / 2 = 6 and (8 − 4) / 2 = 2, so x = 2 or x = 6.

If the discriminant is zero, there is one real solution. If it is negative, there are no real solutions. Check either answer by putting it back into the original equation.

Sample problems from this generator

  1. x2 − 5x − 14 = 0 Answer: x = −2, x = 7
  2. x2 + 6x − 76x(x + 7) Answer: x − 16x
  3. f(x) = 3x + 4, g(x) = 2x + 3, g(f(x)) Answer: g(f(x)) = 6x + 11
  4. |3x + 12| = 18 Answer: x = −10, x = 2

Frequently asked questions

Are there algebra 2 worksheets with answers PDF files I can use?

Yes. The answer key is on by default and starts on a new page after the worksheet when you print. To get a PDF, press Print / Save as PDF and choose Save as PDF in the print dialog.

Is algebra 2 harder than algebra 1?

Algebra 2 usually follows Algebra 1 and builds on it, adding topics such as the quadratic formula, rational expressions and functions. How hard it feels depends on the student, so start with Easy and move up to Medium or Hard.

How do you find the inverse of a function?

Replace f(x) with y, swap x and y, then solve for y. For example, f(x) = 6x + 3 becomes x = 6y + 3, so y = (x − 3) / 6, which means f⁻¹(x) = (x − 3) / 6.

Do problems repeat on one sheet?

No. No problem repeats on one sheet. Press New worksheet to get a different set with the same settings.

What is an extraneous solution in a rational equation?

It is a value that makes a denominator zero, so it cannot be a real solution, even if it appears when you solve. The answer key says which value is rejected.

Can I make these worksheets on a phone or tablet?

Yes. The generator works on phones and tablets as well as computers. Printing needs a printer or the Save as PDF option.

Are these Algebra 2 worksheets OK for Teachers Pay Teachers and Etsy?

Yes. You can sell what you make here, for example as a Teachers Pay Teachers resource, an Etsy download or pages in a KDP book. It is royalty-free and needs no credit line. The only limit is that you may not mirror or resell the site or its generators as a competing service.
